The trade magazine Lebensmittel-Industrie dedicates a two-page feature to Niatsu in its current issue (7|8 2026). Author Peter Jossi looks at our first regionalised, satellite-based dataset for the climate footprint of wheat.

More than 97 percent of emissions in the food industry are Scope 3, and most of them arise in agriculture. Instead of global averages, our dataset provides regionally resolved values, down to the level of cantons and districts, for wheat in more than 25 European countries. The basis is Sentinel-2 imagery and a neural network that estimates yield per hectare.

Our Data Scientist Elissa Dib sums up the point in the article: "Not a global average, but the concrete footprint of a field in Bavaria or Brittany." Next, we are extending the approach to further crops and world regions.
