Background

Outlawz Food is a Swiss producer of meat alternatives with a broad product portfolio, ranging from its well-known vegan bacon to burgers, sausages, plant-based minced meat, and specialty products for the food service sector. The products are available in retail, gastronomy, and through the company’s own online shop.

The market for plant-based alternatives is growing rapidly, but it is also highly competitive. In addition to low-cost imported brands, Swiss producers must differentiate themselves through quality, taste, and increasingly through credible sustainability information.

For Outlawz, there was one central challenge:

Unlocking improvement potential: Targeted measures should be implemented based on real emissions data.
Previously, it was not possible to provide CO2 data across the entire product range due to a lack of underlying information.

Comprehensive CO2 Analysis and Packaging Optimization

Together with Niatsu, the entire product portfolio was analysed. For each product, Niatsu calculated the CO2 footprint across the full value chain – from ingredients and transport to processing and packaging. In addition, the results were compared with equivalent animal-based products to make the advantage of plant-based alternatives visible.

One key outcome was the identification of significant savings potential in packaging. As a result, Outlawz transitioned from a combination of primary and secondary packaging to primary packaging only.
