Emissions data as a competitive advantage in sales

Pacovis, a Swiss B2B food manufacturer partnered with Niatsu to introduce a company-wide solution for making CO2 emissions transparent, accessible, and actionable across its entire product portfolio. The goal was not only reporting, but actively using emissions data in sales, procurement, and product development.

The challenge

Customers increasingly expect transparency around the carbon footprint of food products. For Pacovis, this meant responding quickly and credibly to CO2 data requests in customer conversations and tenders, while managing emissions data consistently across thousands of products and internal teams.

At the same time Pacovis manufacturers food in large quantities with ingredients being sourced globally and variations in destination of origin throughout the year. How to incorporate different ingredient sources and dynamically adjust to new ingredients was a key challenge.

The approach

Pacovis chose a holistic solution covering its entire product portfolio. Together with Niatsu, CO2 footprints were calculated and labelled for more than 2,500 products. A continuous data exchange ensures that Pacovis always works with the latest information.

Instead of introducing new tools, the data was integrated directly into Pacovis’ existing internal Microsoft Dynamics 365. This allows teams in sales, procurement, product development, and sustainability to access the same CO2 information at any time, without additional software or manual processes.

Key characteristics of the solution:

  • One consistent CO2 standard across all products and departments
  • Regular updates when supply chains or product specifications change
  • Immediate access for all relevant teams

The results

The implementation delivered measurable improvements across the organization:

  • CO2 data requests are answered in days instead of weeks
  • Sales teams were trained to communicate and interact with customers on the topic of lowering CO2 emissions per product
  • Sales teams improve success rates in tenders with credible sustainability arguments
  • Product development gains clarity on the largest emission drivers

Sales: Sustainability as a door opener

Today, sustainability data is a decisive competitive factor in sales, especially when working with large national retailers. Customers expect clear and reliable information on the climate impact of products.

Pacovis can now present CO2 data directly in customer conversations. This builds trust and positions the company as an innovative partner that proactively meets customer requirements, strengthening its position in sales and tenders.

Designing lower-emission products from the start

With Niatsu’s CO2 insights, product developers can immediately identify the main emission hotspots, whether related to raw materials, packaging, or supply chains. This is especially relevant for Pacovis, who is considered an expert in custom food product development.

As a result, new products can be designed with lower emissions from the outset. Sustainability is no longer an afterthought, but an integral part of product development decisions.

The outcome

By working with Niatsu, Pacovis has established a scalable, cross-functional CO2 data foundation that supports sales, enables better decisions, and creates a clear competitive advantage in an increasingly competitive market.
